The American Cancer Society’s Wig Boutiques provide cancer patients suffering from the effects of chemotherapy and radiation with brand-new wigs, scarves, hats and other headwear at no charge. A local Wig Boutique is located at the American Cancer Society Tinley Park Regional Office at (17060 Oak Park Avenue, Tinley Park).
Wig Boutique volunteers conduct fittings to make sure wigs and other headwear not only feel comfortable, but also match the patient’s lifestyle and personal taste. Volunteers are needed for a one year commitment of a minimum of four hours per week. Training is provided. For more information contact the American Cancer Society at (708) 633-7770.
American Cancer Society Wig Boutiques are part of the Society’s Patient Navigation Services™, a suite of comprehensive resources for any cancer related concern, including information to better understand a cancer diagnosis, emotional support from cancer care specialists and cancer survivors and practical day-to-day assistance to remove barriers to their cancer treatment plan. Services include transportation assistance to treatments, discounted lodging at hotels for patients who need to travel to receive care, insurance coverage assistance, resource matching and referrals and cosmetic help.
