Squealing guitars, ambient electronics and soulful voices will be hanging in the air at Grant Park in Chicago this weekend as the Lollapalooza Music Festival comes to Chicago.
This awesome music festival kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Friday and runs through 10 p.m. Sunday. If you don't already have a ticket, you may be out of luck. According to the Lollapalooza website, all entrance options are sold out—though you can probably snag a ticket at the gates.
If you're a music fan, there's a ton of choice acts to check out, including Black Sabbath and The Black Keys dueling it out from either side of the park. But if heavy music isn't your thing, there's also Sigur Ros, Toro Y Moi and Frank Ocean to expand your musical horizons.
Lollapalooza Tips
Getting There
Tinley Park was recently named among the top transit suburbs in the Chicago area by DePaul University. That's good news for those who commute to work, but it's also great news for getting to Lollapalooza. Trains leaving from the Oak Park Avenue Train Station or 80th Avenue Train Station will drop you off the LaSalle Street Station in Chicago. About a mile walk—likely a 2 mile cab ride—will land you in Grant Park. Get a glimpse at all Rock Island train schedules on the Metra website. See our map above for a route from Lasalle Street to Grant Park.
Weather Report
It just wouldn't be a summer music festival in Chicago without the heat. Overall the weekend looks pretty decent, weather-wise. Weather.com is predicting temperatures in the 90s on Friday and Saturday, and those in the 80s on Sunday. Watch out for some predicted thunderstorms on Saturday, though. Click here for more details.
What to Bring
Due to the probable heat this weekend, it would be a good idea to bring a lot of water. You don't want to pass out while standing in the crowd waiting for your favorite band. Lollapalooza allows festivalgoers to bring in two, factory-sealed water bottles of up to one liter each. You can also bring in empty plastic containers, or an empty CamelBak backpack.
Blankets are a good thing to bring too, for when you want to sit down and rest. You can also snag an umbrella (the kind you can hold in your hand) for possible rain on Saturday, but my suggestion would be to purchase a plastic poncho, as they don't get in the way while raising the roof.
Sunscreen is another good item to pack; only it can't be the aerosol kind. Get some lotion and use it.
