Andrew Weathering Some Growing Pains

T-Bolts' softball team up-and-down in early going as newcomers adjust to pace of play on varsity level.

Three wins, three different ways.

The Andrew softball team has been a bit up-and-down in the early going.

The T-Bolts participated in a four-team round-robin at Providence. The Christner sisters (Katie and Kelly) each hit solo home runs in the tourney. But Andrew  lost to Lockport 15-4 and Glenbard West 3-0, then defeated Providence 9-0. For a full rundown, click here.

On Tuesday, Andrew topped Bolingbrook 10-6. Shannon Rust was 3-for-3 with  two walks, two singles and a double. Katie Christner went 4-for-4. Her sister Kelly was 2-for-5, with a three-run homer and double. Kelly finished with five RBIs. Jessie Tucker got in on the act with a solo homer.

Andrew softball used a  to defeat Joliet Central 7-3 and improve to 3-4 on the year.

"We've still got some growing to do," T-Bolts coach Jim Holba said. "It hasn't been fast progress, but it's been good. We have some kids who are still getting used to a new pace of the game. It's never perfect, but I don't expect them to be, either."

The T-Bolts face Oak Forest today.

Bulldogs Get it Done

Tinley Park softball Oak Lawn 10-4 on Monday, using a rally in the sixth to pull away. On Saturday, the Titans split a doubleheader against Homewood-Flossmoor. The split was featured in this week's .

For Brian Out Loud

Brian Gibbons' Tinley Park baseball team is off to a red-hot start. The Titans improved to 10-2 and 3-0 in the SSC after a 3-1 win over Eishenhower.

T-Bolts Follow Rzeszutko's Lead

After notching a 12-3 win over Kanakakee, Andrew baseball split games Wednesday and Thursday.

In the T-Bolts' win over Kankakee, Justin Rzeszutko had two hits (double and a triple) and three RBIs. Matt Biernat also added two hits and scored three runs.  Dan Durkin had two RBIs. Pat McKeown pitched four innings to pick up the win. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four.  Tyler Hook came in relief and pitched three innings and allowed only one hit and struck out four.

On Wednesday, The T-Bolts dropped a 3-2 decision to Joliet Catholic.  Ryan McCollam pitched five innings and allowed four  hits. He did not allow an earned run and struck out four. Durkin led the offense with two hits and two RBIs.

Marcus Radz led the T-Bolts to a 2-1 victory Thursday over Joliet Central. He pitched six innings and allowed only one run.  He struck out five and walked only one. Rzeszutko and Phil Bria each had a hit and scored a run.  Brennan Gallagher drove in a run in the fifth.

Karapulos Tops Andrew

Andrew girls' track is also off to a great start, winning the Rich East Rocket Invitational. Tiana Karapulos placed first in the mile with a time of 5:38, and Crystal Price placed first in high jump with a jump of 4-10. The T-Bolts' mile relay team placed first and consisted of Megan Walsh, Daryll Rodriguez, Crystal Price, and Maggie Schultz. They were clocked in 4:14.

Extra Points

In their lone match of the week, Tinley Park lost to Lemont 2-1 in girls soccer. Kacie Doorn scored for the Titans.

* The Titans boys' tennis team defeated Shepard 4-1 with wins by Ryan Adamski and the doubles team of Chris Gill and Joe Ortigara.

* Andrew alumnus Garrett Jones has had a great opening week for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He had five hits in the first seven games of the season going into action Friday. One of those hits was a home run on April 2 against the Cubs.
