Against the advice of their attorneys who believed they could win at trial, five Indiana men charged in the Ashford House attack pleaded guilty to three counts of armed violence.

Judge Carmen K. Aguilar handed down the sentences in the attack, where the men stormed the Tinley Park restaurant wearing masks, hoods and gloves with axes and metal batons to confront a neo-Nazi group meeting on May 19 of last year. Charges of mob action, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property were dropped as part of the agreement. The five received: 

• Cody Sutherlin, 23 - five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections
• Dylan Sutherlin, 20 - five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections
• Jason Sutherlin, 33 - six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections
• John Tucker, 26 - 42 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections
• Alex Stuck, 22 - 42 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections

All five men have been in custody since the May 19 incident and will receive credit for 233 days time served and will have to pay $587 in court costs, and will be on parole for two years upon release from prison. With good behavior, they are eligible for parole after serving 50 percent of their time.

OAK FOREST  — Formal Charges Coming for Oak Forest Man Accused of Murdering Wife, Setting Fire to House 

Martin Rodriguez, a 48-year-old Oak Forest man charged with first-degree murder of his wife after reportedly strangling her and setting her body on fire, is scheduled to be indicted in a Cook County courtroom later this month.

His return of indictment, where he is expected to be formally charged with murder and aggravated arson, is scheduled for Jan. 22.

OAK FOREST — Murder Trial in Stabbing Death Set for March

Derek Grib, the man accused of killing 18-year-old Jimenez, is scheduled to go to trial March 25. Grib is accused of fatally stabbing Jimenez, an Oak Forest High School graduate who had military aspirations, at a party in Oak Forest on July 12, 2009. Jimenez died shortly after midnight the next day.

ORLAND PARK — New Trial Set For Accused 'Orland Ghost Rider'

A new trial date for early February has been set for the 22-year-old man accused of being the Orland "Ghost Rider," a wheelie-popping motorcyclist who videoed himself fleeing police, clips of which were later found on YouTube.

Justin Jachimiec has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, including two counts of felony fleeing and eluding police and other traffic violations.

Eric Holt, a 28-year-old Orland Park man accused of possession of child pornography, is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 26.

NEW LENOX — New Lenox Man Guilty in Coma Punch Case, Family Rails Against System

Judge Sarah Jones found New Lenox resident Joseph Messina guilty of punching a Joliet man into a coma outside a Mokena bar in July 2009. Messina, 24, faces up to five years in prison for the attack on 29-year-old Eric Bartels.

FRANKFORT — Frankfort Lawyer on Murder-For-Hire Rap Gets Some Attorney-Hire Money

A Will County judge is giving back the bond money he revoked from a Frankfort lawyer so he can hire an attorney to defend him against charges he tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife.

The Frankfort lawyer, 50-year-old Robert Gold-Smith, had been out on bond after allegedly attacking his wife outside a Will County courtroom following a November 2010 divorce hearing.

Gold-Smith allegedly beat his wife in a courthouse hallway in front of numerous witnesses. According to a psychiatrist's report, Gold-Smith said he "blacked out" during the attack.
