Your Turn: Boy Scouts of America Consider End to Ban on Gay Members, Leaders

Boy Scouts of America is discussing whether to end its ban on gay scouts and leaders. Local groups could decide their own policy.

The Boy Scouts of America is "actively considering" ending its decades-long ban on gay scouts and leaders, according to NBC News

The new policy would elminate the ban from the national organization's rules and would allow local groups to decide their own policies.

“The chartered organizations that oversee and deliver scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with their organization’s mission, principles or religious beliefs,” Deron Smith, a spokesman for the Boy Scouts’ national organization, told NBC

Discussion of a change in policy is "nearings its final stages."

Are boy scouts even old enough to know what gay means or that they are gay?

The BSA includes Venturing in which you can participate as a youth up to the age of 21. also the Current Policy Includes Leaders. I knew what "Gay" was by the time I was in 5th Grade. So yes they are old enough to know what it means.
