The current tax laws will continue to close small shops in Illinois. Goverment at all levels have no idea what it takes to keep a small business open and have no concern for the broken dreams. In the last week we hear about tax breaks for new business but little or no help for the ones we already have. Why?

I guess they didn't get the 50 percent tax break that Golden Coral's Indian owners are getting.

I notice and have read quite of few businesses have closed since the first of the year in Tinley Park mostly restuarants and food services,I patronize one who is still open "Olympic Star" whos been around many years and remodel last year and what I have seen I don;t give them much time,hope I'm wrong,but then again look how many people have lost their homes and more will,but the messiah and his brown shirts tell you different.BYE BYE AMERICAN PIE,DROVE ME DOWN TO THE LEVY BUT THE LEVY WAS DRY,THAT WAS THE DAY AMERICA DIED,THAT WAS DAY AMERICA DIED. You need to remember, it's Cook County who sets the tax rate, not the village. And how many of you who commented, actually ate there. We did, numerous times. Beef was really good, pizza was nothing to write home about and we quit ordering fries because even if you requested light salt or no salt, you couldn't eat them. We don't have a condition that requires less salt intake, it's just they used so much it would make you gag. Add in that there prices were not on the cheap side of the scale and the staff were not the most social folks around. All of those factors AND today's economy would make it tough for anyone to survive long

First of all the food was awesome the employees were very very friendly especially their daughter that worked there everyday. She was so awesome even when people are pain in the ass's which most tinley park people are. Obviously it's not closed bc of the government tax! It's cuz the tinley park people were not 'supporting' the business therefore the business was not worth staying in that location. Carms has a very rich history for over 50 years. No ones beef will ever compare to carms beef. The food is perfect.. The beefs were always the cheapest price which beat portillos and Al's prices. Get your facts straight. Having gone to carms way back in the day when the beefs were 56 cents I know carms will pop up again in a better location who's locals grew up on it. Love you carms beef!!!!!!!!

Oh No...I loved Carm's. I just tried Buona's and had decided that I was still going to go to Carms. I'm so sad.

If your business fails, you did something wrong as the operator... be it poor service, high prices, location selection, inferior product, poor marketing strategies, ect. You can't blame the community. Obviously the demand wasn't there for your product. Cry me a river.

Katie said it very well. Mick, the owner, worked hard at the restaurant and produced a great product at a reasonable price.
We used them for catering as well as ate there quite often. They will be missed.

I agree also they had fabulous food, Beef was over the top. I feel the Village does nothing to get more business down this end of town, Just the Zabrocki plaza area....

The food was amazing and they never failed to satisfy my taste buds. It was a complete shame to see tha they closed. They have been around for so long and the family running it was always so happy and gave the best they had to that restraunt. The business is the best around. Screw the rest

Not much survives south of 175th Street. In the 19 years I have lived here (in the same house, same location) we have seen at least 6 businesses leave from the corner of 179th and Oak Park Avenue. What is wrong with that corner? So many good restaurants have left that location. Carm's was in a bad location. The previous owners left after a year or so and the one before them never seemed to be very busy either. So now we have a bunch of empty buildings again - Chick's, Carm's and Blue Fox. It is looking pretty sad south of 175th Street.

Why is it that Tinley Park is giving Golden Corral a tax break but all of the family owned businesses on Oak Park Ave. continue to close down? I agree that Carm's wasn't in the best location but IF T.P. was a little more cooperative with small business owners perhaps some of the empty store fronts could be filled and business could thrive south of the tracks to 183rd Street. I've watched My Bike try three locations on O.P. Ave. with no success, watched three businesses on the corner of 179th and O.P. Ave. fail (all of which were good, my favorite being Anita Margarita) and now Carm's closing down after that building was empty for so long after Serio's closed (miss them too). We need new blood in office that can begin to repair the damage that has been done. Support local businesses!

We better get used to seeing more of these businesses closing. Inflation is coming and it won't be pretty.

I've spoken to pig farmers and they drastically reduced their livestock as the feed is just too expensive. Stock-up now, because you won't be able to BBQ this summer on a budget.
