Check Forgery

A man who tried to cash a fake check to make a buck was arrested this week when a teller realized the check was phony, police said.

Stevie Jones, 53, of the 1700 block of South 89th Street in Chicago, was taken into custody around 2 p.m. May 29 at MB Financial, 18299 Harlem Ave., Tinley Park. Officers said he tried to cash a fake check for an unspecified amount in return for $200 of the profits. Jones said he was approached by three men who asked him if he'd be willing to try his hand at cashing the check, according to the report.

He was told to say he was a construction worker if he was questioned, he said, and to leave the bank if it was taking longer than just a few minutes. Officers got a call from the teller handling the transaction because he knew the check was fraudulent, according to the report. Jones was charged with one count of forgery. 

Penis Graffiti

Police said that around 9:30 a.m., they found black graffiti of a penis on pavement and a for sale sign in the 6600 block of West 179th Street in Tinley Park.

Warrant Arrest

Dennis J. Garner, 32, of the 8900 block of South Emerald Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 9:10 p.m. in Chicago on a warrant out of the Tinley Park Police Department for driving with a suspended license.

Church Window Shattered

A window to the multipurpose room on the north side of Zion Lutheran Church, 17100 S. 69th Ave., Tinley Park, was shattered between 5 p.m. May 25 and 10 a.m. May 26. The offender, or offenders, only broke the outside pane of the double-pane window, police said. "It appears as if (someone) trampled some flowers that were directly below the window," the report said. "No rock or other object was found at the scene."

Wedding Rumble

Police arrested Christina L. Melson, 31, outside the Hilton Garden Inn, 18335 S. La Grange Road, Tinley Park, around 2:40 a.m. after they said she got into a scuffle with a group that was attending a wedding. Melson, too, was at a wedding, according to the report. Police said she punched one guest from the other party in the face and slapped another. She was charged with one count of battery and one count of battery causing bodily harm.
