Comcast Moving Jobs Around at Tinley Call Center

Cable company is moving jobs around as it creates "centers for excellence" to improve customer satisfaction.

Comcast cable company is moving more than 100 jobs out of its Tinley Park call center in October, but will then turn around and hire about 75 people to fill new jobs at the center, said company spokesman Jack Segal, vice president of public relations.

“Comcast employs a center for excellence strategy,” Segal said. “We are moving our retention team from Tinley Park to a center in Sterling Heights, Mich. Then we plan to expand the customer support team at Tinley Park to handle billing issues.”

The Tinley office at 8101 W. 183rd St. has 425 employees including customer service, security and IT staff.

Segal said 78 retention team jobs at a similar call center in Oak Brook are also being transferred to Michigan.

Segal said in addition to the new jobs in Tinley Park, Comcast will be adding 100 new positions at a center in Naperville devoted to business services and an undetermined number of jobs at a call center in Woodridge.

“We are adding 250 positions, so there will be a net gain of jobs in the Chicago area,” Segal said.

Segal said the company will try to find new positions for the displaced workers. Any workers who do not find new positions with Comcast will receive severance packages and outplacement services, Segal said.

The layoffs will begin Oct. 1 and be completed by Oct. 15.
