Cops: Former Paramedic Steals Medical Equipment

Police said a former employee is to blame for a recent theft at an ambulance company.

were called earlier this month to an independent ambulance company, where paramedics said they saw a suspicious van drive behind the building and then speed off.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. July 7 at a 185th Street ambulance company, right around the corner from the , according to the report. An officer reportedly caught up with the van, which was being driven by an ex-employee of the company.

The 28-year-old said he went to the back of the business to see if a friend of his was at work. The officer asked if he could search the van and the driver obliged. The driver had in his possession needles, syringes, aspirin, IV solutions and a pair of scissors. He produced a paramedics license for the equipment, according to the police report.

However, employees at the business later found all those medical items missing from their inventory, which was housed in ambulances that were parked behind the business.

Formal charges against the ex-employee had not yet been filed as of Tuesday, though company representatives told police they intended to sign complaints.
