Cops: Man Books With Svedka in Pants, Purse Snatcher
Tinley Park police reports, Aug. 3-6.
MONDAY, AUG. 6
Dennis P. Connors, 52, of the 8800 block of West 172nd Street in Tinley Park, was arrested around 1 a.m. in the 18300 block of South Harlem Avenue. Police said they got word from a witness that Connors was driving erratically, striking curbs on Harlem Avenue and speeding. He reportedly failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle
Cassandra Carr, 41, of the 1700 block of Molitor Road in Aurora, was arrested around 3:25 p.m. at HomeGoods, 7420 W. 191st St., Tinley Park. Police said she had stuffed several linens sets in a bag and walked out of the store. She was accompanied by one other woman who fled on foot, police said. Because of what police called an "extensive criminal background," she was charged with felony retail theft.
SUNDAY, AUG. 5
Driving With Open Grey Goose
Le Andre Mc Hugh, 31, of the 3600 block of Van Buren Street in Bellwood, was arrested around 3 a.m. near the intersection of 167th Street and Harlem Avenue. Police said he had an open bottle of Grey Goose in between the front passenger seat and the center console. He was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Accused Purse Snatcher
Police said they arrested Joseph J. Cooper, 30, of the 8200 block of South Peoria Street in Chicago, around 3:50 p.m. in the 7300 block of 183rd Street in Tinley Park. He was reportedly caught on video stealing a purse from a woman who was dining at Buffalo Wild Wings, 7301 W. 183rd St. The woman and her friends left the bag unattended for just a few minutes, they said, and came back to find it missing. Cooper was charged with one count of theft.
Cologne, Cosmetics Shoplifted
Tina M. Farej, 24, of the 7800 block of West 157th Street in Orland Park, was charged around 2:30 p.m. with retail theft. Police said she stole a compact and two bottles of cologne from Super Kmart, 16300 Harlem Ave., Tinley Park.
SATURDAY, AUG. 4
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Police arrested a man and a woman around 9:15 p.m. in the 7500 block of West 167th Street in Tinley Park, where they reportedly found them driving with four bags of heroin in the car. The driver, Joshua H. Pendl, 26, of the 16400 block of Olcott Avenue, was also wanted on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on the warrant and additionally charged with one felony county of possession of a controlled substance. His passenger, Sara C. Duitmann, 20, of the same address was also charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance. The four heroin bags weighed a total of .6 grams.
FRIDAY, AUG. 3
Man Books With Svedka in His Pants
Police said Demetrius C. Copeland, 18, of the 15700 block of Thomas Lane in Oak Forest, ran from security at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, and shoved a stolen bottle of Svedka down the front of his pants before driving away. Officers caught up with the man on 167th Street near Gentry Lane, they said. They found him with the bottle of vodka, which was valued at $12.97. He was charged with retail theft.
