Lincoln-Way North High School senior Lewis Cafaro won the 2012 Illinois Tollway Map Cover Art Contest, sponsored by the tollway, Blick Art Materials and U.S. Equities, according to a press release.
Cafaro's artwork will be on the cover of the tollway's 2012 map.
"There were so many outstanding entries from other students. I was surprised that mine had been chosen as the overall winner," Cafaro said in the press release. "I am very excited about the award and have really enjoyed being part of the contest."
Lincoln-Way East High School senior Ashley Miyagawa also won in the "green" transportation category of the contest.
"I knew immediately I wanted to submit a design in the green transportation category," Miyagawa said in the press release. "I was happy to participate in the contest and was honored to be chosen as a finalist."
The contest received 76 entries from student artists around the region. Five L-W school district students made it to the semifinals. More than 10,000 online votes picked the nine finalists, and the overall winner and runners-up in each of the three contest theme categories were chosen by a panel of judges.
