Officials OK Bakery at 80th Avenue Train Station
Local officials said they've given an informal "yes" to a vendor's proposal for a bakery at the 80th Avenue Train Station. If everything goes as planned, its doors should open this fall.
The newly renovated 80th Avenue Train Station is about to get a little sweeter.
Village of Tinley Park officials have said they recently agreed informally to a proposal from executive chef Nicole Betourney, who recently presented a vision for her Palos Heights-Based business, Isn't That Sweet. She is expected to be up and running this fall.
Betourney, also known as "The Cupcake Lady," listed potential food choices and compared her pricing with that of competitors. But she won the officials' support with the promise of "high-quality, unique bakery items in an inviting setting, an oasis of relaxation and culinary pleasure" when the operation gets under way — probably in the fall, after additional storage is built.

The station's building is fully functional but has lacked a vendor since the end of its first construction phase in March. The 5,600-square-foot structure replaced a tiny 1,400-square-foot shelter that was built in 1978. An official grand opening for the site, including a unveiling of a sunken garden, pedestrian underpass and the highly-anticipated Veterans Plaza, is scheduled for November.
The Village Board approved Tuesday a $98,000 addition to the station's construction costs. The money will fund a storage building Betourney will be able to use, as indoor space is somewhat limited in the kitchen area.
