Wallet Finds its Way Home

A resident turned in a wallet at the Tinley Park Police Department around 8:40 p.m. The wallet contained $171 cash and several identification cards. It was found at EuroFresh and police returned it to its rightful owner.

Woman Didn't Pocket Perfume, After All

Tinley Park police weren't able to confirm the theft of a bottle of perfume at a local beauty store. Officers were called to Ulta Cosmetics, 7350 W. 191st St., Tinley Park, around 3 p.m. after an employee reportedly saw a woman dart into the public bathroom after looking closely at a bottle of Gucci Envy.

The employee followed the woman and said, " … The customer did not appear to have used the facility … (she) heard no 'tinkling' water noise or flushing." After the woman left the restroom, the employee found an empty, crumpled box of Gucci Envy in the stall. Police tracked the suspect down after she'd left the store and found no perfume in her car or possession. 

Wallpaper Snagged

Anna Leja, 26, of the 10600 block of South Depot Street in Worth, was arrested around 4 p.m. at Menards, 6851 W. 159th St., Tinley Park, and charged with retail theft. Police said Leja stole a roll of wallpaper worth $18.39. She reportedly admitted to concealing the item and asked that she not be arrested, police said.

Mystery Car Jams Traffic on 183rd Street

Police said that around 4 p.m., they found a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser blocking the roadway in the 7900 block of 183rd Street in Tinley Park. The vehicle was facing west with its hazards on and although the driver was not in the car, a passenger was.

About 25 cars were stopped as a result of the stagnant car. Asked who the driver of the car was, the passenger gave police a name that had no record in their system. The car was towed from the scene around 4:30 p.m. and police had yet to hear from its owner as of Monday.

When they called the passenger to follow up and find the owner's name and address, the woman said she "could not give the information today because she did not have it."
