Police: Crying DUI Arrestee Hopes Officer's Mother Dies
Officers said an area woman arrested on driving under the influence charges was muttering some peculiar statements in the back of the squad car.
Police said an Oak Forest woman who reportedly drove up onto a concrete median in Tinley Park last week blew more than three times the blood-alcohol limit.
Officers arrested Meredith C. Covelli, 41, of the 6800 block of West Oakview Court in Oak Forest, around 11 p.m. May 8 in the 16700 block of 80th Avenue in Tinley. Police said she was seat belted in the driver's seat of her 2010 Kia, which was stopped on a concrete parking median at the entrance to a parking lot. She was pushing on the gas and trying to steer, according to the report.
"The vehicle was in such a position that it would not move as the wheels were not touching the ground," an officer wrote in the report.
Covelli was surprised when an officer approached her window, according to police, and she immediately started crying. She wasn't answering many of their questions and "would only cry and mumble incomplete statements," police said.
She reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Tinley Park Police Department.
"While driving back to the station suspect was still crying and would state over and over, 'I don't know you but I hope your mother dies and you (find) her in a bad position,'" the report said. "Suspect would continue to repeat this while crying in an angry tone of voice."
Covelli blew a .252 on the Breathalyzer, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08.
