Police: Drunken, Barefoot Pedestrian Cited for Being Under the Influence
Officers found a local woman running down 183rd Street last week.
Tinley Park officers cited a woman early Wednesday who they said was sprinting shoeless in the westbound lane of 183rd Street while "going to her boyfriend's house."
They found Brooke E. Werner, 21, of the 17700 block of Pheasant Drive in Tinley Park, around 2:30 a.m. in the 9300 block of West 183rd Street. She was barefoot and running eastbound, according to the report. Police first stopped her to see if she was OK, they said, but she soon became belligerent, telling them "she wasn't breaking the law."
"(Werner) had a strong odor of alcohol … on her breath, was having difficulty standing on her own … " the report said. "(The officer) made several attempts to find out where Werner had come from, why she wasn't wearing shoes and where she was going with negative results."
When she began walking away from police, they determined Werner was a hazard to herself and others, they said. They arrested her and charged her with being a drunken pedestrian.
"During transport, Werner was kicking the rear passenger side window of the (officer's) patrol vehicle, but did not break it," the report said.
While she was being processed, police found Werner's tan Toyota Camry about 50 feet west of 94th Avenue near Chestnut Trail.
"Two tan flip flop shoes were discovered at the scene," the report. " ... One inside the vehicle on the front floorboard and one in the weeds on the passenger side exterior of the vehicle."
Werner was allegedly screaming obscenities at police at the station and was uncooperative with her mother when she came to pick her up.
"(Werner's mother) requested that her daughter be transported to the hospital due to her level of intoxication and violent behavior," the report said.
She was taken via ambulance to Advocate South Suburban Hospital.

What was the hospital supposed to do with her? If she's just drunk she doesn't belong in the psych ward.
