A gunman with a white bandana covering his face robbed a 7-Eleven in the 7600 block of 159th Street early Friday morning, taking off with about $50 in cash from the register, according to a Tinley Park Police report.

The store manager told police he was sitting behind the counter at around 3:09 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and heard the door open, the report stated. The manager began walking toward the register when the man who walked in pointed a small gun at him and said, “give me all the money.”

As he opened the cash register, the manager activated the silent, hold-up panic alarm, the report stated. The manager then gave the gunman about $25 in $1 bills and $25 in $5 bills, the report continued. Once he had the money, the suspect said, “I am not going to hurt you. Go into the bathroom and count to 10.”

The manager did as told, police said. When he came out, the manager told police he locked the front door and called 911. He did not see the gunman leave, nor did he see any vehicles parked in front of the store, according to the report.

The manager described the assailant as a Hispanic male, 5-foot-3, with a heavy midsection, the report stated. The gunman was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, gloves, a hat and a white bandana across his mouth, the report continued.

Police units from Tinley Park, Orland Park and the Illinois State Police canvassed the area but found nothing, the report stated. An K-9 unit from the Orland Park Police Department also checked the area without success, police said.
