Police: Pair has Heroin, Crack Cocaine and a Glass Pipe
Officers stopped a driver on Friday when they noticed she had a cracked windshield. But that wasn't the only crack they found, the report said.
Local officers reportedly found more than 2 grams of heroin, more than 1 gram of crack cocaine, a burnt pipe and a random pill when they pulled over a driver last week for a routine traffic violation.
Police began following Rachel L. Yates, 24, of the 12600 block of South Keeler Avenue in Alsip shortly after 8 p.m. March 16 when they saw she was driving a vehicle with a cracked windshield, according to the report. They then saw her cross over the center line twice and fail to use her signal when turning, they said.
She was stopped near the intersection of Jean Lane and 167th Street in Tinley Park.
"I observed Rachel's eyes to be glassy and her pupils to be extremely large," an officer wrote in the report. "… While Rachel was speaking she seemed extremely nervous."
Yates initially denied having anything illegal on her or in the vehicle, the report said, but later directed police to a stash of heroin in her bra. Her passenger, Anthony L. McCarthy, 34, of the 11600 block of Roberts Road in Mokena, was reportedly found with 1.9 grams of heroin in three bags, 1.3 grams of crack cocaine in eight bags, a burnt glass pipe with a braille pad inside of it and a plastic straw.
Police said Yates' drug stash contained .4 grams of heroin in one bag and a Alprazolam pill. She was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. McCarthy was charged with the same, along with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
