Orland Park Man Wins Patch's 'Predict the Score' Contest!
Dean Casper comes closest with his 24-14 prediction of a Packers victory over the Bears, winning a $150 Target gift card.
Those @#$&! Packers! Green Bay came into Soldier Field and dominated for most of the game, though third-string quarterback Caleb Hanie came off the bench and made a valiant effort to get our Bears back into it.
No matter the score, we have a winner in Patch's "Predict the Score" contest. Dean Casper, of Orland Park, who predicted 24-14, was just three points off the final score of 21-14. He wins the $150 Target gift card.
He was one of three Patch readers to predict the Packers would beat the Bears in our contest. Todd Bunge was very confident in the Packers, guessing 34-17, 16 total points off the mark. Darwin Vermiere figured a few field goals would be in the mix, guessing 24-17, six points off the mark.
But Casper was just a field goal off the mark.
"I am a DIE HARD Green Bay Packer fan and proud owner of one share of Packer stock," said Casper in a post elsewhere on the Tinley Park Patch site in a bid to turn the site's editor into a Packers fan. "The Packers are the ONLY professional sports team to be publicly owned.
"The Packers are the most fan-friendly team in sports. In summer training camp, players will ride the bikes of area kids the two blocks from the locker room to the practice facility, while the kids carry the player's helmet. This is so cool!"
The first points of the game came on a one-yard touchdown run by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. No one guessed he'd score on his own two feet. (And he tripped up Brian Urlacher after an interception, preventing a Bears touchdown.) The last time the Packers were in the Super Bowl was 1998. The last time they won a Super Bowl, Brett Favre was quarterback in 1997.
At 90 years, Bears vs. Packers is the longest rivalry in the National Football League.
