Village Board OKs $41 Million Budget

Officials gave their stamp of approval Tuesday night to next fiscal year's budget, which includes new police and public works vehicles, water main repairs, and more.

The operating budget for Fiscal Year 2013 comes with an anticipated $41.2 million price tag—an expense that was given the go-ahead Tuesday with a 5-0 vote by the Village Board.

Trustees approved the general fund budget at their regular board meeting. Patricia Leoni was absent. The vote came one week after a public hearing on the issue—at which no one spoke, officials said—and more than 10 days after the budget was put on public display for residents.

The total cost is up about 1 percent from the 2012 budget, which was slightly less than $41 million, according to board documents.

"It's a good position to be in and (budget planning) has been done with a lot of hard work on the part of everyone," said David Seaman, a board trustee and chair of the board's finance and economic development committee.

This year's budget came in about $2 million less than what the village planned for, officials have said, crediting the savings to a decrease in personnel costs. Next year's budget accounts for the hiring of two village telecommunicators, one police officer and a part-time computer programming engineer, the budget says.
