Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Vote: The Most Loved Pizza in Tinley and Oak Forest

The Patch Pizza Playoffs: We're looking for the pizza lover's pizza. But we need your help, and your vote.

Getting ready for Sunday's game? Got the big screen TV and your favorite pizza place on speed dial? When the big game ends, we may have a champion but the debate over who's really the best never ends.

That's true for pizza, too. But Patch's Pizza Playoffs aims to find The Most Loved Pizza in the Southland. Patch's fans know what they like.

"Blarney Stone. Hands down. (Especially the BBQ Chicken)" — Billy Beechy

"Papa's has the best pizza! Cracker thin crust, perfect amount of sauce and always fresh ingredients! Love it!" — Paul Boersma

"Ed & Joe's hands down!!! The BEST taco pizza EVER!!!!" — Lisa DeVitto Vanderwall

"Guardi's.... delivered by Big Al himself in the Escalade" — Mitch McAwesum

"Old Tinley Pub and Eatery has the BEST thin crust pizzas! Hidden food gem in Tinley! Not only that but they have one of the best French Onon soups I have ever tried, their cheesy beefs on garlic bread are another great choice." — Meaghan Elizabeth

Here's our lineup for Tinley Park and Oak Forest. We're focusing solely on local pizza places — no regional or national chains. Voting will end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Talk up your favorite in the comments. Tell everyone why you love a particular pie!

The pizza to garner the most votes in this round will advance to the championship round, facing off against winners from throughout South Suburban Patchland.

Looks like the Salinas owners are stackiing the votes here.

That stuff is crap. I had their pizza(?) once and was sick for three days.

How can they even call it pizza when there is no sauce and only traces of cheese?

They should call it germ dough.

Arrenello's is the best by far. And we do go far to get it from Crete Township. We are fans since 1981 @ the Glenwood location. It's consistently made well with lots of the most unique sauce, and it's baked in Ovens that really increase the heat of the pies, retained to the last piece that we fight over in a large or family size--just the 2 of us!

Papa's in Oak Forest kills it...! Favorite for over 35 years.... and this is just putting up their cheese pizza up against the rest let alone sausage and/ or pepperoni. It's all about preference but these guys have always delivered even before they changed owners. There's other really good ones in Tinley (Ed & Joe's, the old Figaro's aka Cuzins, Aurelio's, etc...) but Papa's is pretty ridiculous. Everyone over the years that I have either bought pizza for or newbies that now have tried it all rant and rave on how good it is. Support this place 100%. I'd franchise this joint out here in Cali if they'd let me school these wanna bee thin crust pizza parlors out west.

Lets look at the true facts here, Salinas, Ed@Joe's, Guardis, Village Pizza, and Little Joe's, these are true staples to the area!!! Not some place that has been open for 6 months and will probably be gone in less than the next year! Like me if you have grown up in this area and still live here these name will mean something as far as giving back to the community everyone from around here KNOWS these names, wheather it be from going to events that are sponsored from these places or going to Bulldogs games or Bobcat events, or simply just giving their appreaciation back to the community!!(Case in point the Salinas open house where they opened up their new facility to all of their customers to take a look around and see for themselves how they will better service their customers!)

Ed & Joe’s respectfully withdraw from this contest. It’s obvious there’s a flaw in the voting system.
Thank you to everyone for participating on behalf of all the business. Possibly in future there will be a more scientific voting contest.

Hi Ellen. This is meant to be a fun contest and we're aware that voting is "Chicago style." If you'd like me to remove your business from the poll, I can do that. However, voting ends tonight and you remain in the lead.

to the owners of ed and joe's. Obviously this contest is not being conducted the way it was intended. I think you should contact the patch to file a complaint against shifty's packin' and to get his e-mail address. After that, I would get his IP address then an attorney and sue him and the patch for slander. The patch probably intended this contest to be a fun activity, but a jerk like shifty's packin' can to permenant damage to a businesses reputation and the owner's livlihood. I think shifty's packin' is either a competing business or a dsgruntled employee.

Of course we intended this to be a fun activity, Jim. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and some, unfortunately, choose to express that opinion in an immature way. We've deleted several of Shifty's comments that violate our terms of use and will continue to do so, should he continue to make them. I appreciate your feedback.

This was a good idea gone bad. All of the places in the contest have some pretty darn good pizza. It would be impossible to pick just one as the best. I would encourage readers to give them all a try some time.

Carrie, if this is gonna be done "Chicago Style" then let's do it right. Listen up pizza shop owners. Send me 1 large pizza and you'll get my vote (all of them). I was born and raised in Chicago, so I vote, and I vote often!! Since we have so many contestants, email me and I'll let you know what toppings and which night to deliver. Woohoo, no cooking this week!!

A blind taste test needs to be conducted for all of the original seven pizza places in Tinley Park that were on the ballot. This would be a true test of who actually has the best tasting pizza and not a popularity contest. It could be an event and money could be donated to charity.

Abe......are you HONESTLY implying something amiss here? Some citizens have taken a GOLDEN opportunity to express their opinion by casting their vote(s). Just because we're in Cook County in the state of Illinois doesn't mean this election is not on the up and up........................... does it?

Does Chicago-style pizza inspire Chicago-style voting? The Pizza Playoffs is an opportunity for an establishment's fans to show their affection. Not only does the size of the fan base matter, but the intensity of their affection matters, too. We encourage people to vote as often as their heart desires. It's not a scientific "best pizza" poll, and the results of such a poll wouldn't be any more valid, either.

We did this to have some fun. It's also the best way to put the little corner shop that opened last year on the same playing field as the restaurants who followed their customers from the South Side to the south suburbs the last 40 years. A pizza guy could sit in front of his computer and vote 10,000 times — but that guy could use a hug and some friends. We tend to think better of folks in our community.

One can't underestimate the effect of digital tools and social media, either. A friend of mine in Spain who grew up in the south suburbs voted on the poll after someone sent him a Facebook link. The shops who promoted this on Facebook and e-mail customer lists clearly fare better in the polling.

When we get to the final round, we intend to invite several members of the Patch community who left comments on the first eight ballots to join us in a blind taste test, too, to complement the voting.

Also ... A few folks have wondered while Aurelio's, Beggars and other chains aren't in the poll and think we shouldn't have excluded them. We actually took the suggestion of an Aurelio's exec to our Homewood editor a few months ago that franchise chains be excluded. He was confident the fervor and depth of their fan base would overwhelm the mom-and-pop shops. We thought it was a good suggestion.

Mike and Ellen Clark owners of Ed n Joes are by far the most giving kind and well respected people living and servicing out wonderful village of Tinley Park
There food is great they have by far awesome catering and you always end up with more than enough food

My wife and I have used them to cater many functions every year. Yes we have tried others. But no comparison

And no one gives back to the community' like they both do

This is a relaxed, non scientifiic polling system. People like Abe Lincoln, and Ed and Joe's pizza are not only rediculous but also RETARDED! It is just a relaxe poll people. Of course people voted more than once. If they did, then that means that they are that supportive of their pizza joint, so their mulitple votes still hold value. Ed and Joes's-RELAX. If you guys weren't so insecure you would know you were a good establishment, But you aren't. You only make money because you are in a good location. Withdrawing your name is not only a coward move, but it also shows how little class you have as a company.

Pizza is my favorite, but I have been having a hard time finding a consistently good favorite. I have tried many of these different restaurants and while I used to like Ed n Joes a lot the last time I ordered 3 large pizzas it was over $80 and my guests were not impressed. Many comments that the cheese was rubbery. I haven't ordered it since! I have ordered fish from there more than a few times and sometimes it has been FUNKY FISHY, other times it was spot on! I don't think a lawsuit is warranted against the guy who hates Ed n Joes. He's entitled to say his opinion as much as he wants. The average person will make their own judgments based on their own experiences. I would have liked to have seen a legit voting system though so I knew who I should really try next for the best pizza!
