'Nifty' Legacy Girls Set to Sing at the Library

The musical trio, Legacy Girls, will perform at the Tinley Park Public Library, Sunday, March 11. The hour-long show, from 2 to 3 p.m., is entitled 'Nifty '50s & '60s', and will feature music from that era.

It's going to be a blast from the past at the Tinley Park Public Library when Legacy Girls take the floor on Sunday, March 11, from 2 to 3 p.m, for a show featuring '50s and '60s era music. The free concert is open to anyone to attend. The Legacy Girls started their careers as Tres Bella, and now the three friends tour together performing several shows. At the Tinley Park Public Library, the 'Nifty '50 & '60s' show, will feature the women performing songs such as, 'Jail House Rock', 'Respect', 'I Got You Babe', and more. Free Chicago Museum Admission for Bank of America, Merrill Lynch Members

This weekend, and every first weekend of the month for the rest of the year, all Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders are eligible for free admission to Chicago's top museums.

Good news for all Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders. Your respective financial institutions would like to add some culture to your life. That’s why they’re offering free admission to various Chicago museums to cardholders every first full weekend of the month throughout the rest of the year. They’re kicking it off this weekend, March 2 and March 3 in honor of National Women’s History Month. Just show your bankcard and an ID to the museum admission desk for free access. The deal applies to cardholders, exclusively. Anyone without a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch card will have to pay. The following museums are participating:

Last Chance for 'Hot Wheels Classic'

The Tinley Park Park District is holding its 'Hot Wheels Classic,' Friday, Feb. 15, at the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center. The event is for children ages 2 to 8 years old.

For Tinley Park children feeling the need for speed, the Tinley Park Park District is ready to drop the green flag on the 'Hot Wheels Classic'. The event, which takes place Friday, Feb. 15, is for children ages 2-8 years old. Children ages 2 to 3 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event will be held at the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center, 8125 W. 171st Street. There will be three separate sessions during the event, which runs from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees must bring their own Hot Wheels or Matchbox car(s) to the event. Celebrate 5 Years of Teaching Kids How to Rock on Sunday

House of Music in Orland Hills is throwing a 5th anniversary showcase of several bands they’ve assembled out of their music students, one of which just auditioned for America’s Got Talent.

House of Music has spent the last five years teaching kids and teens to play music. Along the way, they have also taught students the arguably more difficult path to play as members in a band. Last Chance for Learn How to Make Candy

Chef Katie Bradley will host Candy Making Made Easy on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the TInley Park Public Library. The class is from 7 to 8 p.m. and is free to attend.

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and for residents looking to add a personal touch to their romantic day, the Tinley Park Public Library is hosting a Candy Making class on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 7 to 8 p.m. The class, called Candy Making Made Easy, will be hosted by Chef Katie Bradley in meeting rooms A and B. The class will include tastings and recipes for attendees. There is no charge for the class. Registration can be completed by completing a form on the library's website. Frankfort Band Finds Success with Atlantic Records

Makeshift Prodigy writes, plays and records under the world-famous music label ... all from their studio Frankfort.

There was a time when Jacob Foy and Anthony Bagnara were a couple Lincoln-Way Central High School students rocking out under the name “Makeshift Prodigy.” Today, they’re signed to Atlantic Records and are currently in the midst of a national tour. “We’re all really excited,” said Bagnara, who is a resident of Tinley Park. “It’s kind of terrifying at the same time.” From High School to the Top 100 Although Makeshift Prodigy began back in Bagnara’s Lincoln-Way days, it wasn’t until college that the alt rock band determined their current lineup. That lineup includes Bagnara on lead vocals, Foy on guitar, Christian Kwitkowski on bass, Joe Bauer on drums and Brandon Fox on keyboards. Four of the five band members hail from the Lincoln-Way area…

Fans of British Series ‘Downton Abbey’ to Pack Library

Fans to gather to wrap up season two in advance of third season premier on Sunday on PBS.

Fans of the British television series “Downton Abbey” will pack the Tinley Park Library on Saturday to watch the two-hour final episode of season two in preparation for the debut of season three on Sunday on PBS. “We planned the viewing because of a lot of patron interest,” said Susan Bailey, marketing and community outreach specialist for the library. “We have 70 people signed up so far,” said Bailey, who admits she’s a fan of the show that depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the post-Edwardian era. “The show is the highest watched miniseries on PBS with 17.1 million viewers per episode,” she said. Oliver! Brings Dance, Song and Gruel to Lincoln-Way Area

The family friendly musical will run during early January at the Lincoln-Way East auditorium.

Curtain Call Theatre will present Oliver!, the family friendly Dickensian musical, during the first week of January. Oliver! tells the story of the classic Charles Dickens protagonist, Oliver Twist, who is thrown out of an orphanage and forced to make his way in Victorian London amongst a cast of colorful characters and questionable situations. “The music is timeless,” said cast member and Homer Glen resident David Knezz, who plays Fagin, the caretaker and ringleader of a gang of pickpocket young boys. “It’s a fun show.” The production includes 88 performers, 56 of whom are children. The cast, which is largely made up of residents from the Lincoln-Way area, began rehearsals in October. Cast members range in age from 3-60 years old. …
