Act of Kindness Celebrated at SD228

Tinley Park custodian Jim Smith has been on TV and in the news lately for saving the life of Tyler Teaney, a Tinley Park High School special education teacher.  Smith came upon Mr. Teaney on December 2 in the school's hallway while working.  Teaney was choking and Mr. Smith performed the Heimlich maneuver to save his life.

The D228 Board asked Mr. Smith to attend its December 17 meeting for a special recognition.  Board President John Kirkton said to Smith, "Thanks to you, the Teaney family will have a wonderful holiday and the students at Tinley Park High School have their teacher.  On behalf of the Board of Education, please accept our gratitude and this small token of appreciation."  Smith was given a gift certificate to Hog Wild.
