Students in Mr. Lee Rucinski’s AP Chemistry class at Tinley Park High School headed downtown to McCormick Place to watch a demonstration about chemical energy and fuels. The presenter was Lee Marek, a former Naperville North High School teacher for 30 years, who is now a professor at UIC. Mr. Marek is also David Letterman’s go-to science guy and has appeared numerous times on the show. The demonstrations dealt with different aspects of chemistry on a much larger scale than students see at Tinley Park High School. The demonstration was a part of Science Week hosted by Pittcon 2014, a conference for analytical chemistry.
