Tinley Park HS BPA at State Competition

Tinley Park High School’s BPA students recently embarked on State competition in Oak Brook, competing with 900 other students from across the State.  The students participated in an array of competitions including Desktop Publishing, Fundamentals of Accounting, Web Site Design Team, and Prepared Speech.  On Thursday there was an opening ceremony.   Students were then able to compete in their individual competitions or head over to Oak Brook Shopping Center.  Friday was the most eventful, with students finishing competition in the morning.  Promptly at 6:00 p.m., a banquet took place in the Grand Ballroom, which included an auction of various items to raise funds for Special Olympics. Students could purchase raffle tickets and place them in baskets in hopes of winning a prize.  Two Tinley Park students won prizes including a Samsung Galaxy tablet, two t-shirts, and a gift basket with a selection of gift cards.  In addition, there was an outstanding speech done by a participator of the Special Olympics.  She amazed everyone with her many achievements and reminded the BPA students why Special Olympics is such a great program that has touched the lives of so many people! After the banquet students had the opportunity to participate in a dance in the Grand Ballroom.  “It was the highlight of the entire weekend,” Caleeiah Simmons stated.  She is only one of many students that raved at how amazing the night was.  It brought all of the students together and will be remembered for a lifetime. On the final day, the award ceremony took place.  Three of Tinley Park’s very own made it to National competition, which will be held in late spring in Indianapolis.  Those students include: Tiffany Jones, Second Place in Human Resources Management; Ellis Moore, Third Place in Prepared Speech; and Magaly Degollado, Second Place in Prepared Speech. Additionally, Miriam Kanan qualified for the BPA Ambassador Torch Award for her community service and leadership activities.  Everyone gave their all during competition and had a great time doing so! Congratulations Titans and good luck to everyone going to Nationals!
