A huge congratulations goes out to Mrs. Cassie Gaines, Physical Education teacher at Tinley Park High School!  Mrs. Gaines was honored on Sunday, October 20 with the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) Young Professional of the Year Award!

In a recommendation letter from Tinley Park Principal Dr. Theresa Nolan, Gaines was described as having an amazing professionalism and passion for Physical Education.  “Students in her class are challenged, motivated and ultimately successful.  They flock to her caring, enthusiastic and honest personality, yet know they are going to work harder than ever imagined!” said Nolan.

Gaines met the requirements of the IAHPERD review committee in the areas of:

· Contributing to a quality program as reflected in NASPE and State standards and guidelines for education programs;

· Utilizing various teaching methodologies and planning for innovative learning experiences to meet the needs of all students;

· Serving as a positive role model who epitomizes personal health and fitness, enjoys activity, reflects sportsmanship and shows sensitivity to the needs of students; and

· Participating in professional development opportunities/providing service to the profession through leadership, presentations/serving on the state/district/national committees and/or presenting at workshops.

As stated in the letter Mrs. Gaines received from the NED Awards Chair, her “support and dedication to enhance the vision to benefit Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance is clearly an example for others to follow.”
