Try It and See Classes Offered at Music Connection

When parents of a young child who seems interested in music call or come to The Music Connection wanting to start music lessons some ask: “Couldn’t we just “try it and see”?

Some parents are afraid that their child might be too young. Some are worried that they “might not like it.”  Some are afraid of the cost of lessons or “what if my child doesn’t have talent?”

“These four classes offer an opportunity for parents and children to ‘test the waters,’” said Music Connection director Janet Kuester.  “After taking the class, many sign up for lessons. Some parents discover that nurturing their child’s interest in music and waiting 6 months to a year before starting would be a better choice.”

Try It and See is designed for 4-7 year old children and their parents. It is for children who have not yet experienced playing a musical instrument.

The first class is just for parents. The teacher gives an overview of the class to the parents and explains the two methods of instruction to parents: Suzuki and traditional. Teacher also reviews the ways to assess readiness in the child, simple games used to help a child learn and practice, and demonstrates the instruments. Children are given an opportunity to try a piano and a violin. The topic of “talent” is also addressed.

Next class in Orland Park is Try It and See Violin and Piano and will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:00PM beginning September 4.

Try it and See classes are $49 for four 30 minute sessions. For current offerings for Try It and See and other classes offered, visit our website www.theconnection2music.com or call 708-364-7590 or 815-464-4434.
