Over a Thousand Kids and Parents Celebrate Vegetables

Bob and Larry of VeggieTales celebrate with over 1,000 kids at Family Harvest Church while jamming to their favorites.

Friday, April 5th was a night to remember as a 20th birthday party that included vegetables. Bob and Larry of the well known franchise VeggieTales celebrated their 20th birthday with a live show at Family Harvest Church.

Parents and kids began to arrive more than 2 hours before the show, some wating outside, others in their vehicles. It was what some call "VeggieMania."

If you were standing outside with some of the families you could feel the anticipation of an exciting evening. Most were covered in some sort of VeggieTale apparel, other children expressing themselves through capes and eye masks. "It was Lollapalooza for kids", one onlooker commented.

Once inside the church which looks like a mall upon entering was filled with tables of novelty VeggieTale items and an amazing table display from World Vision. If you're unfamilar with World Vision, they link people to child sponsorships all over the world. They had a beautiful back pack on display which was being sent to one of the sponsored children in India.

With only minutes to spare, we rushed inside the main auditorium and saw the largest LED wall we had ever seen. The music began to play and within seconds hundreds of kids were singing along and waving light up VeggieTale toys to the theme song. Another grandparent I bumped into said, "after Disney, this is the next best thing for us. I'm grampa of the year right now."

Once the music and lights were on, costumed characters Bob and Larry arrived to welcome everyone. Then to our suprise five more characters came on the stage to sing and dance with everyone. At the beginning, everyone was asked to remain seated but 15 minutes into the show, children were dancing in the aisles.

Once they danced and sang through their tour hits of, “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything,” “His Cheeseburger,” “I Love My Lips,” “Song of the Cebu,” “The Hairbrush Song,” “Monkey” and “God is Bigger than the Boogie-Man,” it was time for the VIP meet and greet.

VIP ticket holders waited another hour after the show to get to spend some quality time with Bob and Larry. As the children waited, they burned off any last remaining energy as the night approached 9pm.
