Should Park District Buy St. Boniface Site?

The Tinley Park-Park District is holding a meeting to hear from residents about what it should do with the land occupied by St. Boniface Park, which the park district currently leases.

The Tinley Park-Park District wants to hear from residents about whether it should buy the St. Boniface Church site, at Oak Park Avenue and 163rd Place in Tinley Park, according to a district release.

The district will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center to hear from the people living near the site about what should be done with the land. The meeting is scheduled to go less than an hour.

Currently, St. Boniface Park, which contains a playground and ball fields, occupies the site, and the park district has been leasing that land for it since 1982, the release stated. If the district buys the site, it plans to keep it as a park. However, that could change if the land was purchased by another party, the release stated.
