Update: Severe Weather has Passed Through Tinley

Although a thunderstorm watch remains in effect, the tornado warning no longer applies to the Tinley Park area, officials said.

Rain is on its way. And it's not coming alone.

It brings with it a potential for large hail and whipping winds—they could be as fast 50 miles per hour if a text message alert sent shortly after 7 p.m. by the proves accurate.

The alert was upgraded at 8:15 p.m. to include a tornado warning, said Mayor Ed Zabrocki during Tinley's Village Board meeting. But Emergency Management Agency Director Pat Carr said around 10 p.m. that the worst had moved on its way.

"It looks like the severe weather has passed Tinley Park," he said, in an e-mailed statement. "The severe thunderstorm watch is still in effect ... No damage (was) reported in town."

A power outage was effecting 837 customers in the southern end of the village shortly after 10 p.m., he said. ComEd had no update at that time on when power would be restored.

"... The conditions are right for a tornado," Carr said around 8:15 p.m. "We're monitoring this very closely and we will sound the sirens if we see anything."
