USMC Corporal and Tinley Native Gets a Deserving Hero's Welcome

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Kristin Carrero was surprised by her family on Sunday.

A lively crowd gathered in downtown on Sunday to give a hero's welcome to one of our country's finest—and most deserving—military veterans.

Friends and family members surprised U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Kristin Carrero at the . She was greeted by members of the VFW as well as the American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association and was given a full police escort to her Tinley home.

An alumna of , Carrero left for boot camp in South Carolina just two weeks after graduation. She then completed combat training in North Carolina and moved on to logistics training, in which she became a specialist. She spent a year in Okinawa and was then stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California from 2009 to 2011.

Among other honors, she's earned the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.
