Village Names This Years Winners of 'Benches on the Avenue'

The votes are in. Seven awards have been given to those who patriotically showed their talents in downtown Tinley Park.

This summer's award winners have been named by officials.

Twenty-one benches transformed into patriotic works of art by local artists still line Oak Park Avenue from 172nd to 176th streets. They're all special in their own ways, officials have said. But some stand out from the rest.

Most Creative

  • Jennifer Lilly for her bench coined, "The Sixties"

Best Young Artists

  • The Art Club for their work on, "Independence Day"

Best Group Project

  • Garrett Gray and Phillip Gerk for, "Presidential Tradition"

Best Use of Materials

  • Nick Schulien for, "Where the Buffalo Roam"

Best First-Time Participant

  • Babeth Kopf, "Land of the Free"

Best Portrayal of Theme

  • Marty Rose and Don Zak, "Land of Liberty"

Best Family Project

  • Debra and Lenny Scinto and Ron "Cowboy" Iacono, "Welcoming Home our Heroes"

All of the benches displaying the America the Beautiful theme can be seen along downtown Oak Park Avenue through September.
