Local chefs with a knack for serving up a good rack of ribs are invited to try their luck at this year's Amateur Rib Cook-off.
The Village of Frankfort teams up with the Frankfort Area Jaycees to host the August 2 event, which will be held at Breidert Green. The contestants will prepare and cook the baby back ribs on-site. Contestants will be allowed to set up their designated area from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the day of the event. Each contestant will receive 15 slabs of ribs from the Jaycees on the day of the event to begin their preparation.
The fee to enter the competition is $75 until June 30, and increases to $100 after that date. The fee includes the price of the meat. The deadline to enter is July 18, however, based on last year’s success, many participants have already signed up for the event.
A complete packet of rules and regulations, including the application form, is available at the Village of Frankfort administration office, 432 W. Nebraska Street, or at the Village website at www.villageoffrankfort.com under August 2 on the calendar. Official judging for first, second and third prize will begin at 12:30 p.m. and announced at 2:30 p.m. A prize for “crowd pleaser” will also be awarded.
The public is welcome to join the contestants during the cook-off, and can begin tasting at 1 p.m., until 3 p.m.. Admission is free, with each rib tasting ticket sold for $1 each. Concessions will be sold by members of the Jaycees and the Frankfort Lions Club.
“The Village is very pleased to again work with the Jaycees on this event for our community," said Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland. "We invite all of our amateur chefs to participate and show off their prize winning rib recipes. I urge everyone to mark their calendars now so they can enjoy this event."
