Update: Where to Ice Skate Outdoors in the Southland

The temperatures might not be cooperating — yet — but local outdoor ice skating rinks in the Southland are prepping for residents to enjoy the outdoors on skates.

Check our our list of local outdoor ice rinks, along with skate rental fees and hours of operation, when available. Patch will update the list with hours and rental fees as the season continues. 

Tinley Park

The Tinley Park-Park District called to say it updates the status of its rinks on its Athletics page, as well as post from time-to-time on its Facebook page if they are usable and recommends skaters check because warm, rainy weather (forecast through this week) affects the status of the rinks.

Lewis Park, Riverside Drive and Normandy Drive

• Hours: dawn to dusk
• Skate rental not available. 

Community Park, 8175 W. 171st Street

• Hours: dawn to dusk
• Skate rental not available.

Oak Forest

El Morro Park, 15500 Arroyo Drive

Orland Park

Winter Wonderland Ice Rink, Cential Park, 15600 West Avenue

• Hours: Sunrise to 9 p.m.
• Skate Rental Fee: $2, helmet rental free

Frankfort

Main Park, 200 N. Locust Street

• Hours: Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Skate Rental Fee: $3
• Two rinks: one for free/open skating and one for hockey.

Champions Park, 19900 S. 80th Avenue, Tinley Park

• Hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Skate rental not available.  

New Lenox

Haines Wayside Park, 200 Haines Avenue

• Hours: dawn to 10:30 p.m.
• Skate rental not available. 

Mt. Greenwood

Mt. Greenwood Park, 3724 W. 111th Street

• Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 12:30 to 7:30 p.m.
• Skate Rental Fee: $6

Evergreen Park

Yukich Field, 8900 S. Kedzie Avenue

• Hours: Thursday and Friday, Noon to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
• Skate rental not available.
