The final month of summer has arrived. But the fun doesn't have to leave.

August may have arrived, but that doesn’t mean you need to jump on all those back-to-school sales just yet. Let’s not forget that we all got gypped in the rainy month of June and probably didn’t do all the fun summer stuff we had planned. So before getting the kids ready for school, why not use this last month of summer to your advantage?

You don’t need a vacation when there are much more affordable things to do around Tinley. Instead of skipping town for a week straight, you can extend staycations over the whole month of August.

Laugh Your Way to the Legion

Spend your Saturday night laughing for a good cause during the . Scheduled for Aug. 13, the event will feature five of Chicago's best comedic performers and all the money that's made will go toward veteran programs. Tickets are $10 each and available at American Legion Post 615, by calling 708-532-1737, or can be ordered online.

Cruise Night

For a completely free evening of entertainment, plan to attend every Tuesday Through Aug. 30, you can view an array of vehicles, from antiques and classics to customs and military. Socialize with as you stroll down the aisles of impressive rides on and off of Oak Park Avenue. There are plenty of places to pit stop for food along the way, including the , where a stand is usually set up.

Relive Woodstock

Channel your inner flower child for a evening by coming decked out in your best Woodstock outfit to . The bar will host a Aug. 13 beginning at 9 p.m. Don't miss the chance to move and groove to tunes that will be provided by the Leaping Lizards from Down Under. Never heard of 'em? All the more reason to come check it out!

Who Said Summer Has to End?

Just because school's around the corner doesn't mean the fun must stop. Especially when there's a right here in your own backyard. The event, scheduled for Aug. 20 at in Tinley Park, will feature a "Yard Fulla Cars," 60s band, competitive dance team, beer tents, kids' games, inflatables and tons of activities. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family. Don't miss a chance to get in on the action!

Motorcycle Run

Adults, this one's for YOU. Join others from the area for the Motorcycle Run on Aug. 28. The event begins at the Municipal Center in New Lenox with a pancake breakfast at 10 a.m. Then, the police-escorted ride begins at noon. Also included is entertainment from three live bands. For $15 per person, you get to enjoy the day’s activities and the knowledge that your proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
