“Girls on the Wall” – Screening and Discussion at GSU

As part of Governors State University’s African American History Month activities, there will be a special free screening and discussion of the 2010 Emmy Award winning independent film “Girls on the Wall” on Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m. in Engbretson Hall.

Mariame Kaba, executive director of Project Nia, which facilitates the creation of community-focused responses to youth violence and crime, will lead the discussion.

“Girls on the Wall” follows incarcerated teenage girls as they work toward redemption through the creation and production of a musical based on their lives. As the girls write and stage their play, they take the first steps toward breaking free of the prison system. The film features girls from the juvenile prison in Warrenville.
