Grease!

Grease is the Word at South Suburban College

It's time for the SSC Playhouse's spring musical at South Suburban College as they rock the roof with the classic 1950s musical GREASE in the Kindig Performing Arts Center. The show runs evenings at 8 pm Tuesday through Saturday, April 24 - April 28, 2012, with weekend matinees at 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29, 2012. The production was made possible thanks to a grant from the South Suburban College Foundation, and college president George Dammmer.

GREASE bops through the high drama of high school. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski recall their summer romance to the hot-rodding "T-Birds" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" of Rydell High's senior class of 1959. The whole gang shimmies and shakes to the singing and dancing fun of songs that include, Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, Beauty School Dropout, Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee and more. The retro fun recalls the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that become the soundtrack of a generation. An 8-year run on Broadway, two revivals, and countless national productions place GREASE among the world's most popular musicals, and it all began in Chicago on February 5, 1971, at the Kingston Mines Theatre.

The cast includes Jennifer Balbuena of Homewood, Bianca Borras of Dolton, Lakeisha Brooks of Calumet City, Tanae Burton of Harvey, Debbie Burt-Frazier of Dolton, Latrese Calvert of Markham, Jarvis-Chardon Brown of South Holland, Josh Crick of Homewood, Ashley Curran of Harvey, Abigail Fancsali of Tinley Park, Judy Hardieway of Homewood, J'Rae Harris of Park Forest, Leffié Martin, Jr., of Riverdale, Joi McCowen of Calumet City, Monty Montgomery of Chicago, Todd Neal of Dolton, Samantha Pacyga of Hazel Crest, Kathryn Pennix of Park Forest, Wesley Perkins of Markham, Raven LaShelle Phillips of South Holland, Sherita Powell of Hazel Crest, Kayla Richardson of Burnham, Brandon Smelko of Munster, IN, Loren Tassin of Dolton, Joseph Turner of Burnham, Reggie Watkins of Dolton, and Brittany Welles of Dolton. The production is stage managed by Miles Ware of Calumet City.

Lighting design is by Shelley Strasser-Holland of Flossmoor; master carpentry is by Erica Burger of Chicago; costumes and props are by Yani Schaeffer of South Holland, Lisa Montgomery of Dolton and Linda Birt of Dolton; sound engineering is by Dwain Whitted of Harvey; videography is by Haley Rose Gilhooly of Davis, California and Chicago; and, publicity and theatre management is by Ellie Shunko of Lansing.  Musical direction is by Mike Cierski of Calumet City, and band members include Vicki Pastore of Hammond, IN, Michael Ticich of Chicago, Michael Ward of Lansing and Alex François of Blue Island.
