"Madeline and the Bad Hat" coming to Lincoln-Way

Area children will have an opportunity to see Ludwig Bemelmans’ Madeline series come to life Nov. 19 as Lincoln-Way High School District 210 teams up with ArtsPower National Touring Theatre to bring the popular children’s book to the stage.

Madeline and the Bad Hat will be presented at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Lincoln-Way Central High School, 1801 E. Lincoln Highway, New Lenox. Guests should enter through Door 7A.

The third in the Madeline series, ArtsPower’s Madeline and the Bad Hat focuses on the unbreakable bonds of friendship and family. Madeline is none too pleased when Pepito, the son of the Spanish ambassador, moves in next door. He seems insufferably arrogant and conceited. And worse of all, he’s cruel to animals.

Under the guidance of Miss Clavel, the caretaker of the girls at Madeline’s boarding school, Madeline learns not to judge a book by its cover. She discovers that Pepito’s father is rarely at home and that this new neighbor is misbehaving because he is desperate for attention.

Tickets to the Nov. 19 show are $6 each and may be purchased by phone with a credit card by contacting Charles Stark at 815-462-2307 or cstark@lw210.org.

Tickets also will be available the day of the performance in the school box office. The box office will open at 10 a.m.

The musical is being presented by ArtsPower National Touring Theatre in conjunction with District 210’s popular Children’s Theatre Series, which brings professional, world-class artists to the area at reasonable prices.

Past performances have included Laura Ingalls Wilder, Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing, Max & Rub, Charlotte’s Web, Junie B. Jones and Curious George.

In January, District 210 will present the third and final show of its 2011-2012 Children’s Theatre Series when it presents Skippyjon Jones, the tale of a little kitten with big ears and even bigger dreams.

That show will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 S. Gougar Road, New Lenox.
