Garden Gallery and Studio Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The Tinley Park gallery will be hosting an event Thursday, showing off its canned food "canstruction" sculpture that Whole Foods in Orland Park help build. Find what will happen with the food cans that make up the artwork after the exhibit is over.

Tradition usually dictates that the person celebrating an anniversary receives the gifts and doesn't give them.

But as part of Garden Gallery and Studio's one-year celebration, gallery director Beth Kopf, along with Whole Foods in Orland Park and volunteers, has created a "canstruction" sculpture of can food that will eventually be donated to Together We Cope's food pantry.

Of course, that's all part of Kopf's philosophy about the nonprofit gallery: It's all about the work. And much of that work is created by artists with developmental disabilities. (Other works are created by volunteers to the gallery and Kopf.) In fact, money from the sale of the art goes to Garden Center Services, a nonprofit agency that helps those with developmental disabilities.

Check out the video to hear Kopf talk about the gallery and what it's like to celebrate a one year anniversary.
