Softball: Tinley Park Shuts Out Peoria Notre Dame in Super-Sectional
Senior Sarah Gillespie struck out six Tuesday and helped give the Titans their first state semifinal berth.
So far, Tinley Park High School's softball victories have either been about outstanding pitching or outstanding hitting.
In the super-sectionals, the Titans found out what happens when they're outstanding at both at the same time: They're unstoppable.
Tinley beat Peoria Notre Dame, 7-0, in the super-sectional at Illinois State University in Normal. The Titans now advance to the state semifinals—a first for the program. They will face Glenbard South at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.
Senior Sarah Gillespie pitched another complete-game gem for Tinley Park, striking out six and giving up only four hits. The Titans' offense was fueled by the hot bat of senior third baseman Alyssa Gunther, who went 3-for-4 and scored three RBI and two runs.
