Black Wednesday: What Bars Have Specials for Thanksgiving Eve? (Updated)

Patch spotlights some of the taverns in Orland Park, Oak Forest and Tinley Park that are offering deals and drinks and food the day before Thanksgiving.

  • UPDATED (6:32 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21): Added Durbin's in Tinley Park.

The day before Thanksgiving—called Black Wednesday in some circles—has become one of the busiest days for bars and taverns. It's a time when people meet up with friends for a drink or two before having to deal with family.

Watering holes in Oak Fores, Orland Park and Tinley Park are taking advantage of the time, offering drink and food specials.

Oak Forest

Blarney Stone Pub: No cover charge, $3 and $4 pints of craft beers, $4 select glasses of wine.

Cindy's Pub: $10 six-bottle Miller product buckets, along with a special turkey and stuffing dinner.

Durbin's of Midlothian: $2 bottles of domestic beer, $3 bombs and $3 shots of Patron.

Marcotte's Bar & Grill: $10 buckets of domestic beer, $2 turkey bombs, $5 beef sandwiches, trivia and a raffle for $100.

Oak Forest Bowl: $13 domestic and $17 imported beers bucket specials.

Oliver's Bar and Grill: $3.50 tall drafts, $4.50 tall imported bottles and shot specials.

Houlihan's: Half-priced house cocktails, Long Island Ice Tea and draft beers.

Tinley Park

Bailey's Bar and Grill: $10 buckets of five domestic beers and $3 UV bombs. Also, the bar has $3 pork chop sandwiches and $1.50 hot dogs.

Durbin's of Tinley Park: The bar will have a turkey raffle every hour from 4 p.m. to midnight. Plus, half-price martinis and wine, and $3 domestic beer half-pitchers.

Intimo Martinis Lounge: Wine Wednesday means all house wines are $3.

JW Hollstein Saloon: A DJ will be playing at 10 p.m.

Old Tinley Pub & Eatery: $5.50 pitchers. The bar will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Teehan's Irish Tavern: $1.50 on domestic beers, $2.50 on domestic bottles and deals on shots. The tavern will open around 6 or 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

@Mike Fangman: I think the question was why wasn't it originally listed. That's been rectified. Joe Vince Local Editor, Tinley Park

If walmart says they have a special on underwear, it doesn't mean you have to rent a semi to get them home. Even though I'm against drinking and driving, I really don't have any heartburn over this article. Lighten up Francis.

Maybe I should have used the word suggesting rather than promoting. But then again promoting is advertising too. And listing the bars and their specials is advertising, isn't it? Most people drive to go shopping on Black Friday, don't they? "It's a time when people meet up with friends for a drink or two before having to deal with family." After those one, two or more drinks, it's in to the car to drive home. I did read the story about the DUI markers. Let's hope this article does not turn in to someone buying a DUI death marker or appearing in the DUI reports on Sunday. If one must drink please have a designated driver. Happy Thanksgiving!

lala, I think ultimately you have a legitimate concern. You don't want to see people drinking and driving. That's reasonable and I agree. But to refer to this post as in any slight way encouraging or advertising this behavior, is purely ridiculous. Suggesting is also the wrong word, as is advertising. It's not about word use. It's about a baseless implication. Do you seriously believe that someone will read this article and think "well if Patch told us about drink specials, I guess it's OK to drive drunk." When someone drinks and drives, he or she has made a decision on his or her own accord, barring a situation where someone's beverage was unknowingly spiked or altered. I read DUI reports every week, and I can tell you that is a rare situation. I wish you and yours a happy holiday as well. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving and a blessed start to the holiday season.
