Comings & Goings: Whole Foods Under Way, Cruise Night Packs Up

Construction is under way on the Whole Foods Market in the former Borders at 15260 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park and the grocery store is expected to open this fall.

“It takes time to turn a former bookstore into a grocery store,” said Orland Park Development Director Karie Friling. “They are also adding a second floor for offices and storage.”

The Orland store is one of eight stores the Texas-based chain plans to open this year.

At 27,000 square feet, the store is on the small size, especially when compared to a Meijer or Jewel, but Whole Foods prides itself on featuring natural and organic foods that are free of artificial ingredients and hydrogenated fats.

The Orland store will be the chain’s first location in the Southland. Whole Foods has 17 other stores in the North and West Suburbs and 317 worldwide. Whole Foods said the store would bring 150-160 jobs.

Jos. A. Bank Open in New Spot

Men’s clothier opened a new location on Aug. 18 at in Orland Park.

“We’re up and running,” said an employee of the store on Friday.

The business moved into an upper-level space vacated by Ruby Tuesday while its own former downstairs space will become home later this year to The Cheesecake Factory.

Dave & Buster’s Now Hiring

Dave & Buster’s, an adult arcade and sports bar that will open on Sept. 22 at Orland Square Mall, including bartenders, servers, cooks and host staff.

Sweet Deal for Metra Station

Tinley Park officials have selected Isn’t That Sweet of Palos Heights to provide pastries, light lunch and coffee to commuters at the 80th Avenue Metra Station. Owner Nicole Betourney should be open for business later this year.

Gap Open During Construction

A new store is under construction in the lower level Sears Court at Orland Square Mall, but the store will remain open in its current location until the new space is ready.

Marquette Bank to Help Schools

is holding its fourth annual Adopt-a-Classroom drawing through Sept. 15.

Customers, teachers, parents and residents can enter the drawing at any Marquette Bank location for a chance to win a $200 gift card that can be used to buy school supplies for a local school classroom, chosen by the winner. The bank will give away 25 gift cards.

Kelly Clarkson, Toby Keith to Play Tinley
