Business Comings & Goings: Kris Kringle Haus Opens in Orland Park

Kris Kringle Haus, a seasonal Christmas store that operates from October through December in Orland Park, opens Monday, Oct. 1, at 14934 S. LaGrange Road, its new location in Orland Park’s Park Point Plaza.

Owner Jim Gierucki only looks like Santa Claus with a bushy white beard, but the store is definitely filled with the Christmas spirit as it has been for the past 23 years.

The store is open through Jan. 6. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Upcoming events include Black Friday specials with hot cider, cookies and peppermints.

Tribes of Tinley to Open Next Week

Tribes Alehouse will officially open its Tinley Park location at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at 171st Street and LaGrange Road in the former CharleyHorse sports pub.

But the craft beer pub will have a soft opening of sorts this week when it will be for a few hours a day during the week. The pub has been announcing when it is open on its Facebook page.

Tribes Alehouse in Mokena features craft beers with 45 on tap most days, a full bar and an American-style Brasserie menu. The Tinley location will have the same menu but will feature at least 50 beers and maybe more, according to owner Niall Freyne.

Miroballi Plaza Now Open

Miroballi Shoes is now open in its own plaza at 144th Place and LaGrange Road in Orland Park. The store was one of the businesses forced to relocate with the closing of Orland Plaza earlier this year.

The store has been a fixture in Orland Park for more than 40 years after moving from its original home in Chicago’s Beverly community. There also is a store in Wheaton.

Jet’s Pizza Coming to Tinley

A new restaurant called Jet’s Pizza is preparing to open at 17105 S. 88th Avenue.

Tinley Park is one of 29 new locations preparing to open for the Michigan-based chain, which has more than 200 locations and proudly calls itself the 17th largest pizza chain in the country.

The company’s website says it serves pizza, sub sandwiches and salads and its signature item is a deep dish square pizza.

It’s Greek to Me No More

It’s Greek to Me closed recently at 13119 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park. The restaurant opened in March 2010. Its website is shut down and the phone number is disconnected.

Texas Roadhouse Wants Expansion

The Tinley Park Plan Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, to consider approving plans for a 448-square-foot addition to Texas Roadhouse at 18345 S. LaGrange Road. The proposal would allow the popular restaurant to add 28 seats.

Southland Chamber Going Bananas

The Southland Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Bananas Grille and Bar in the Tinley Park Holiday Inn, 18501 Convention Center Drive. To reserve a spot, RSVP to 708-957-6950 by Monday, Oct. 1.

PADS Opens Permanent Homeless Shelter

South Suburban PADS, in partnership with Turnstone Development, opened a 77-unit permanent supportive housing facility last week at 4411 Gatling Blvd., in Country Club Hills.

The permanent shelter for the homeless, known as the Country Club Hills Wellness Center, is the first of its kind in the Southland. It has a combination of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.

The five-story facility features a library and TV/community room on each floor, a children’s playground, classrooms and program offices, computer lab, and a culinary career center.

Future plans call for a vegetable and herb garden and a wellness clinic.

Country Club Hills donated 3.5 acres of land for the facility.

PADS is an inter-faith program providing shelter and support services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Southland. It opened its first emergency shelter 22 years ago.

“Our ultimate hope was to bring an end to homelessness,” Mike Wasserberg, executive director for South Suburban PADS, said in a release. “While other agencies were providing some services, PADS plan was to create an organization dedicated to serving only individuals and families experiencing homelessness.”
