Business Comings & Goings: Pink Boutique Opens in Orland Hills

International Cafe opens in Tinley Park • Pizzeria Bella closes in Orland • Eddie Bauer moving at Orland Square Mall.

Local girls looking for a unique selection of dresses now have some new racks to shop. The Pink Boutique opened last month at 16203 S. 94th Avenue in Orland Hills.

“Fashion has always been a hobby of mine,” said shop owner and Orland Park resident Mya Salama. “I enjoy doing it.”

Salama said Pink Boutique offers “prom dresses, evening wear and cocktail dresses.”

The shop also sells accessories and offers a makeup artist by appointment.

So far, Pink Boutique is a one-woman show for the mother of three, ages 9, 7 and 4.

The 1,500-square-foot boutique is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Breakfast spot replaces Lindy’s/Gertie’s

International Café, a breakfast and lunch spot, opened recently at 16703 S. Harlem Ave. in Tinley Park in the spot occupied by Lindy’s & Gertie’s.

The new café features a menu with American, Mexican and Filipino cuisine.

Good news for fans of Lindy’s chili and Gertie’s ice cream: neighboring restaurant Fajitas still serves the most popular items from the Lindy’s/Gertie’s menu.

Pizzeria Bella closes in Orland

Pizzeria Bella, which opened in late summer of 2011, closed for good at the end of December at 8112 W. 143rd St. in Orland Park.

Eddie Bauer moving at Orland Square Mall

The Eddie Bauer store at Orland Square Mall closed at the end of January in preparation for its move to new digs on the lower level near Sears in the spring.

Pro Sports grand opening

Pro Sports Performance and Fitness, 10649 W. 163rd St. in Orland Park, will celebrate its grand opening at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.

Guests will get to tour the fitness center, check out its boot camp, visit health and wellness vendors and massage therapists.  There will be a DJ, food and beverages.

State Farm closes Tinley center

State Farm Insurance closed its Chicago South Operations Center at 8505 W. 183rd St. in Tinley Park at the end of January. The move affected 59 workers who were laid off effective Jan. 31. The company announced in August the center would be closing.

Senators to address Southland Chamber

State Senators William Cunningham (D-18th), Napoleon Harris (D-15th) and Michael Hastings (D-19th) will speak at the Chicago Southland Chamber’s Regional Consensus Luncheon on Monday, Feb. 11, at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Tinley Park Convention Center, 18451 Convention Center Drive in Tinley Park.

The Chicago Southland Chamber is a regional organization that serves a population of 2.5 million in 85 communities in the area bounded by Chicago on the north, northwest Indiana on the east, Kankakee on the south and Joliet on the west.

Orland Hills wins marketing grant

The Village of Orland Hills recently received a $1,680 Local Tourism Marketing Grant from the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau to promote the village’s Party in the Park Celebration on June 28-30 at Kelly Park, 16675 S. Haven Ave.  The grant will be used to create an informal website, and an event brochure.

The Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau distributes up to $46,000 annually to Southland municipalities and nonprofit organizations to promote events.

Dutch Farms hosts food show in Tinley

Dutch Farms, a food vendor based on Chicago’s Southeast Side, has expanded its annual Food Show at the Tinley Park Convention Center to both exhibition halls.

The company has been hosting the annual show in Tinley Park for 10 years and this is the first year the show has needed both halls to hold the thousands of food samples offered during the show.

This year’s show is Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The company is considering holding two shows a year and plans to hold them both in Tinley Park.

Together We Cope, chambers celebrate

Together We Cope, 17010 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park, is celebrating Mardi Gras from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, with members of the Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Oak Forest-Crestwood and Chicago Southland chambers of commerce. The evening is sponsored by BMO Harris Bank.

Everything Entrepreneur Conference coming

The Everything Entrepreneur Conference is coming to the Tinley Park Convention Center from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21.

The business-to-business show is sponsored by Wintrust Community Banks and features a breakfast keynote address by Seth Braun, who will discuss “Indestructible Success,” and a lunch keynote by Kim Hodous, who will talk about building a successful building from your kitchen table.
