Business Comings & Goings: Theater Demolition Begins at Orland Square Mall

A look at new businesses coming into town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits.

Demolition finally began last week on the former movie theater at to make way for the new Dave and Busters adult arcade that should open next year at the northeast corner of LaGrange Road and 151st Street in Orland Park.

Dominick’s Now Closed

The Dominick’s store at 15080 S. LaGrange Road closed last week. The building will remain closed for the next couple of years until after a road project to widen LaGrange Road from 131st Street to 179th Street is finished.

Marquette Bank Launches Adopt-a-Soldier

Through Nov. 4, donations for holiday care packages will be accepted at all 24 branches, including four in Orland Park. The bank also is taking the names of local troops to receive the packages.

CUB to Host Phone Bill Clinic

CUB will host a Phone Bill Clinic on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. at the .

Residents should bring their phone bill and a CUB expert will sit down in a one-on-one session to explain all the confusing charges and give money-saving tips.

CUB experts have been known to show people how to cut their calling costs by about $200 a year.

Orland Township to Host Job Fair

Orland Township is hosting a free job fair for both residents and non-residents on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Orland Township Activity Center, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave. in Orland Park.

A variety of company representatives from different industries will be present to meet with participants, including the insurance and financial fields.

Companies scheduled to attend include Plastipak Packaging Inc., Cintas, Allstate Insurance, Lowe’s, Norfolk Southern, Prudential and more.

Business attire is required and attendants should bring updated resumes for distribution.

PWN Hosts Seminar for Rules of Engagement

The Professional Women’s Network is hosting a seminar on “Rules of Engagement” presented by Iris Gordon at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Prairie State College Matteson Area Center, 4821 Southwick Dr. in Matteson.

The program will explain the benefits and profits in either getting employees engaged or becoming more engaged employee. Participants will benefit by understanding how buying in to day-to-day operations of a business will improve loyalty, profitability, rewards and acknowledgement.

Gordon holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a master’s degree in Communication. She has a background in Executive Leadership, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Strategic Planning, Consulting and Training.
