Business Comings & Goings: Tinley Cardinal Fitness Getting New Name, New Address

A look at new businesses coming to town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits.

Cardinal Fitness centers have been renamed Charter Fitness, and the gym at 17200 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park will be moving soon to new digs in the village, at 16010 S. Harlem Ave.

The conversion from Cardinal Fitness to Charter Fitness began Sept. 1 and is happening at all 10 Southland locations.

The company said the changeover will not affect memberships, but members will be offered a wider range of services, such as personal trainers.

Also moving is the Charter Fitness in Olympia Fields. Other fitness centers in the chain can be found in Orland Park, Frankfort, Mokena, Oak Lawn, Palos Heights, Homer Glen, Lockport, Lemont, Bridgeview and two in New Lenox.

For information, visit Charter Fitness online.

You know what would really be nice is if the village would put in a sidewalk between 167th and Harlem and all the businesses along 159th and Harlem.Too much effort with no return in the downtown area!!

How about a sidewalk from 175th to the Barrett subdivision.

Here we go again! Another empty building in Downtown Tinley Park - the area that our village elite have this unbelievable vision of Naperville. This is a huge parcel that is now empty. I thought it was doing fine! I WAS a member but quit when I could no longer walk to the fitness center. I thought our Mayor and Trustees wanted people to be able to WALK to restaurants, stores, fitness center in town? All I see now in my neighborhood (ex: Oak Park Ave.) is vacant stores, vacant lots where houses once sat (ex: Oak Park Ave, North and South Street), the ice house is now a sea of grass, the extension of 66th court is underway (why?). 29 years out of 52 I have lived in this area and I am saddened each time I see stores close. Mayor! Keep up the great work - you are doing great on the Will county sector of town, convention center (oh! poll dancing? What were you thinking?) Tinley Park makes me very sad and disgusted!
