Business Comings & Goings: Gold Shops Rush to Orland and Tinley

Also, Old World Pizza is coming to the former home of Capri Express and Pama Hair Studio has new digs.

Gold prices are soaring. So too, are the number of impromptu gold based businesses in the Southland.

The high price of the metal—it's been hovering around $1,700 an ounce since late last week—has brought a new gold-buying shop to . We Buy and Sell Gold, which the village classifies as a jewelry store, opened recently at 7112 W. 171st St.

The site was home to the village’s first and only pawn shop, which closed late in 2010 after its owner violated the terms of his arrangement with the village and purchased four antique guns.

The new business' store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's closed on Sundays.

A gold buying store called K.E. Jewelry opened recently at 15810 S. Harlem Ave. in the  plaza in Orland Park. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's also closed on Sundays.

They join three other gold buying stores that have rebranded themselves Gold Max after doing business for a long time as Midwest Gold Buyers. Those stores are in Orland Square Mall, 14700 S. LaGrange Road and at 7928 W. 159th St.

Old World Pizza Replaces Capri Express in Tinley

Pama Has New Home

Pama Hair Studio closed in Frankfort in November but didn’t go out of business. It relocated to 16060 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park.

I'd like to see the village stop giving business license to the scam artists known as Cash for Gold or Gold Buyers. They give you the lowest possible amount so they can get top dollar for themselves. People should be warned about places like these. There are TWO in my neighborhood alone and they make the east side of Orland look ghetto.

Turns out it was a minor crash, according to state police. No one was injured enough to require aRead More trip in an ambulance. Two cars were involved in the collision, which happened at about 2 p.m.

We too live in Parkside and I couldn't agree with you more! I love your sign! I have a three yearRead More old and I refuse to let him play on the last 15 feet of the driveway due to the speeding cars. Maybe a speed bump?!
dalygirl June 16, 2013 at 09:25 am
We've looked into a speed bump too. Make yourself a sign, call the Tinley Police and ask for theRead More electronic monitoring sign, call the village and complain, and be pro-active. Someone from the village saw my sign and has informed me that the village will be putting up speed limit signs and caution - kids playing signs this week. Good luck!!
