Comings & Goings: Chase Bank Coming to Tinley Park, House of Brides Moving

Chain link fences that went up recently near the restaurant at 171st Street and Harlem Avenue in the Commons shopping center are a precursor to two projects planned for that area.

First, Chase Bank is building a 3,800-square-foot facility in front of McDonald’s with an estimated price tag of $2.5 million. According to plans, the bank will feature two drive-through lanes and a drive-up ATM, and is expected to have eight to 10 employees.

“It will be the first Chase Bank within the village limits,” said Ivan Baker, Tinley Park’s economic development director.

Second, three vacant storefronts in the strip center next to the McDonald’s will be demolished to replace parking spaces being taken by the bank. One of the storefronts was vacated recently by , which is relocating to 76th Avenue and 159th Street. The other two have been empty for some time.

The plan also includes possible changes for the McDonald’s. Plans have ranged from a tear down and rebuild of the restaurant with a different configuration to simply adding a second drive-through lane. No plans have been submitted nor approved for the restaurant.

Calls to Rick Heidner of Heidner Properties, which owns the strip center, were not returned.

House of Brides Making its Move

The store at 15180 S. LaGrange Road in Ravinia Plaza in Orland Park has closed, and the company will be moving into a new location at 9604 W. 161st St. in Orland Park.

"They have applied for a transfer of business license and occupancy permit," said Karie Friling, Orland Park's director of development services.

"We will be inspecting the store next week."

A news release on PRWeb.com stated the company will announce next week the location and opening date of its new House of Brides Wedding Super Center.

Calls to the House of Brides corporate office in Glen Ellyn on Friday were not returned.

The company was ordered by Cook County Judge Maureen P. Feerick to vacate the Ravinia Plaza premises by the end of August for failure to pay more than .

The case began on March 1 when a joint action complaint was filed at the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeview. At that time, House of Brides was $208,620 in arrears.

Inland spokeswoman Nicole Spreck declined to speak about the court decision citing company policy.

Rue 21 Now Open

Rue 21, a national fashion retailer for young men and women, opened a 5,800-square-foot store recently in the Plaza near 159th Street and Harlem Avenue. The store is between and Bath & Body Works. The chain operates 770 stores in 46 states.

Another Yogurt Shop Opens in Orland

Trugurt opened recently in Orland Park Place in a small shop on the lower level near .

Baby Expo Coming to Tinley Park

Frankfort-based Family Time Magazine will hold its Baby Expo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the .

The expo is geared toward expectant mothers and families with young children. More than 50 exhibits will showcase baby products.

Admission is $10 for adults and children 12 and older, $2 for children under 12 and free for babies.

Outdoor Fitness Zone Ribbon Cutting

The Tinley Park-Park District will open the Outdoor Fitness Zone at with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5. The zone will allow patrons to add strength training to their cardio workouts while walking the path through the park.
