Comings & Goings: Tinley Repair Shop Serves 100,000th Customer

Foundation dedicated to comforting children and teens fighting cancer moves into a new location in Orland Park.

It took a little longer than expected, but Matt’s TV serviced its 100,000th customer last week.

Warren Kilmer, of Mokena, was the lucky customer on Aug. 8. He was surprised with an LG Network Blue-ray player, an LG Smart TV adapter, a Sycom surge protector, connecting cables and a certificate for $100 toward a new TV of his choice. He also took home a bag of munchies for his TV watching.

Store manager Walter Jones said the total value for all of the prizes was $500.

The store has been around for more than 50 years and has been at 17236 S. Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park since 1971.

The store has been owned by , known as the Mayor of Oak Park Avenue, for the past eight years. He also runs his State Farm Insurance Agency from inside the store.

Treasure Chest Opens New Headquarters

The recently moved into new headquarters at 15430 S. 70th Court in Orland Park.

The foundation is a non-profit organization that tries to comfort children and teens diagnosed with cancer by providing gifts from a treasure chest.

has announced that Dave & Busters adult arcade will hold its grand opening on Sept. 22. Further details are expected.

Graystone Gets OK for Farm

Tinley Park trustees last week approved a special use permit so its owners can transform Graystone golf course on 191st Street into a sod farm after it closes for the season.

Tribes Alehouse Plans Tinley Location

Owner Niall Freyne is in the process of opening a second Tribes Alehouse in the former CharleyHorse sports pub at 171st Street and LaGrange Road in Tinley Park.

Freyne didn’t return calls, but Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki said Freyne had all of his permits so it’s up to him when the new location opens.

Tribes features 45 craft beers on tap, a full bar and an extensive menu.

Tribes is taking applications for all positions at the new location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today through Thursday on the patio at the Tinley location and also anytime at the Mokena location, 11220 W. Lincoln Highway.

Antique Shop Opens in Orland

Savers to Open in Orland Park

will be opening its Orland Park thrift store at 15625 S. 94th Avenue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16.

Beekman Chiropractic Moves to New Office

Formerly near 171st Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park, Beekman Chiropractic moved at the end of June to Orland Park. The shiny new offices can be found near 165th Street and La Grange Road.

Tinley Park trustees last week approved spending a bit more than $15,000 to buy 14 new tables and 42 new chairs for the outside patio at the .

Test Drive Chevy Volt at Orland Square Mall

Motorists can test drive a Chevy Volt electric car on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19, in the lower level parking lot between and . Drivers who take a test drive will each receive a $10 American Express Simon Gift Card.

Dry Goods Now Hiring

Dry Goods, a specialty store owned by Iowa-based Von Maur Inc., will open a 4,500-square-foot store at Orland Square Mall in the fall. The company is now taking applications online at www.drygoodsusa.com.

SD135 Invites Businesses to Family Fair

is hosting the Backpack BLISS Family Fair on Wednesday at , 10801 W. 159th St., and is inviting child-oriented businesses to host tables.

Groups that offer sports, activities, tutoring, special education assistance, counseling and other services will host booths where they can distribute literature and allow parents to sign their children up for a variety of programs.

Illinois Veterans Office Moves to Harvey

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Service Office in Blue Island has moved in with the Illinois Department of Human Services at 16845 S. Halsted St. in Harvey. The new location will be staffed by Charles Lawrence. The new phone number is 708-225-8030 and the new fax number is 708-225-8032. Office hours will be daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
