A cake decorator at Creative Cakes bakery in Tinley Park will be competing in a national event next month in Las Vegas.
Ashley Spitzer earned the honor of representing the Chicago area in the three-day International Baking Industry Exposition after winning the grand prize at the Chicago Area Retail Bakers Association's cake decorating contest in March, according to a press release from Creative Cakes.
She won the Chicago competition thanks to three creations: a wedding cake in the shape of a Tiffany lamp, a groom’s cake in the shape of a cuckoo clock, and a small rolled fondant cake topped with a handcrafted shoe made of sugar.
“Ashley is a dynamo," Becky Palermo, co-owner of Creative Cakes stated in the release. "We have no doubt that she is up to the challenge of a national cake decorating competition.”
Spitzer, who graduated from Kendall College and has worked at Creative Cakes since 2006, will compete against 11 other decorators from Oct. 6 to 9.
