Flowers Remain in Bloom at Tinley Floral Shop

Classy Flowers' owners have a secret recipe for longevity.

district was the first choice when husband-and-wife duo Dennis and JoAnn Maloney decided to open a local flower shop together.

Unfortunately, nothing was available at the time. So they opted to take over a storefront in the 7700 block of 159th Street until they got a chance in 2006 to relocate to their current site, 17311 Oak Park Ave. There, they are nestled in the red building between Durbin's and Teehan's.

Although the building has a more limited capacity, annual activities along Oak Park Avenue and bonds with other "Main Street" businesses have proven monumental, the Maloneys said.

When the economy tanked and surrounding businesses began to struggle, Classy Flowers worked hard to establish and maintain relationships with the customers and the community.

“No, you can’t eat flowers," JoAnn said. "But they provide emotions that embrace people in ways that only a smile can explain.”

The couple's 25 years of floral experience have propelled them to success. And of course there’s the secret recipe.

JoAnn developed a technique in the 1980s that she says make their flowers last longer, she said. She’s also mastered the skill of opening roses.
